AVAILABLE ON

SHOREHAM-BY-SEA

The main launch point is on a peninsular to the West of Shoreham town known as Shoreham Beach. The main windsurfing area is at the East end of a very large car park located next to the Widewater Lagoon. Car park charges are really cheap at £1.50 per day but still some windsurfers do risk their luck (and annoy the local residents) by parking on the yellow lined entry road. The beach is one great big shingle spit which is approx one and half miles long with the waves being larger at the east end. It’s a much steeper shelving beach than at Worthing and therefore does not suffer the same lack of water at low tide (not many rocks here either so OK for barefoot sailors) but it can be choppy on the high and shore dump can also be a problem. Shoreham Beach has recently had areas allocated for various water sports and safe swimming zones. Most of these areas are signed but do ask if you are not sure where to sail (call the guys at Surfladle, Ferry Road on the beach peninsular, Tel: 01273 465366). Best winds for Shoreham are East through to Southwest as Westerly is verging slightly offshore (waves hold up well with this direction but launching is difficult). However, Shoreham-by-Sea is affected by the sea breezes and therefore West and North West wind still makes it a great low to mid tide location during the summer months.

Hi Guys. The write up for the area is a little out of date, especially regarding Lancing Beach, as the works have been completed on the beach and the car park is currently under review (someone would like to remove the 300 plus anti-tank concrete blocks buried beneath it). Car Park Charges for Widewater Beach Car Park at Shoreham and the Lancing Car Park have been increased as well.. to £1.50 for the day, so not so bad as some :). Great new site and keep up the good work!
