LOW-DOWN
The Single Thruster is JP’s versatile all-round wave board, aimed at real world conditions ranging from bump & jump to sideshore wave sailing. Available in five sizes from 74 right up to 106 litres it comes in either Full Wood Sandwich (74 and 82 only) or Pro Carbon constructions.

AT-A-GLANCE
It has a classic out-line shape with a pointed nose and rounded pintail. The deck is quite flat up front, with some dome around the footpads, the pads are soft and grippy and it also comes with top quality JP footstraps. Underneath it has a fairly flat rocker with double concaves running through into some Vee in the tail. The Thruster fin set up consists of a 21cm US Box centre fin and two10cm Mini Tuttle box side fins. It also comes with blanks to cover the sidebite boxes when used in singlefin mode.

PERFORMANCE
For an 82 litre board it feels quite compact but at the same time is very stable under foot, with the volume well distributed through the middle of the board. As you’d expect from a large centre fin there’s plenty of lift to help it plane-up early. There’s a good comfy stance and blasting out it feels direct and solid, with a good top-end that makes it perfect for bump & jump or super windy conditions. It jumps very well and the compact out-line is very easy to control in the air. On the wave it holds plenty of speed, with ample grip through the bottom turn and responds best to being driven into turns with plenty of power. There’s good traction and a predictable looseness in the top turn plus it’s easy to slide the tail out with complete control.

THE VERDICT
The JP Single Thruster is a solid all-rounder that performs well under any circumstances. On test it was a lot of fun in the choppy onshore conditions that we experienced as it’s quick and jumps well, but it also delivered in bigger, better surf. A slightly smaller centre fin does help to loosen it up a bit more and maximise its wavesailing potential.
