UKWA YOUTHS OFF TO EUROPEAN RACEBOARD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The UKWA send us news of our young guns heading to Brest – good luck team UKWA!

“In 2105 due to the upsurge of interest in the Raceboard class amongst our younger sailors the UK Windsurfing Association declared its intention of sending a team to the 2016 European Raceboard Championships in Brest on the west coast of France. To provide an incentive the UKWA (with some help from the London Windsurfing Association) set up a qualifying competition based on results from their Christchurch, Herne Bay and Bridlington events. The awards would amount to £200 each, for two male and two female youth sailors and the UKWA would send a support rib and a coach.
The winners were Rebecca Kent, Molly Howells, Julian Tait and Galahad Wisbey, who together with a group of 19 UK Raceboarders and coach Chris Butt will be making their way to Brittany for the week-long event which starts on 22 August.
At last young windsurfers moving out of the Techno class seem to be realising the potential of the Raceboard as providing enjoyable racing in a wide range of wind conditions, because at the recent UKWA event at Weymouth almost 60% of the fleet was aged under 25.
Best wishes for success in the Brest event go to all our sailors, young and not so young!”
