THE LONG WALK AT SHELL BEACH
Shell Beach is one of the UNESCO heritage beaches preserved in the region of Shark Bay about 800 km. north of Perth. The beach didn’t steal its name from an oil company as it’s literary made out of millions of little shells instead of sand. When you combine the offshore wind together with the long walk before the water gets deep enough to sail, it probably isn’t the ideal place that most people would go for a session. I was having a hard time judging how windy it was and if it was worth even going out. But knowing this was probably the only time we could sail here, I just got my gear ready, walked to the beach, rigged up and walked all the way through the water till it was deep enough to sail. What I got in return was almost perfection. Flat water, 4.4 weather and colours that you don’t even see on the most exotic beaches of the Caribbean or South Pacific!

My dad and my girlfriend followed pretty fast and, with my mother behind the camera, some of the best pictures where taken during a session that almost didn’t happen! With the water being extra saline – salty enough to deter sharks – the pop you could get in all the freestyle moves was just unreal! After sailing for an hour or two the walk back began with a big smile on everyone’s faces – but definitely worth the effort!
