HIGHCLIFFE – STORM ELEANOR

AVON
Up at Avon it felt like we had missed the best of it with beautiful clean waves being feathered by gusty cross-offshore winds. One poor sailor was wondering around in his wetsuit having lost his whole rig during the early morning session in the stronger steadier winds. He had done the right thing and phoned the coastguard to inform them and also posted on Facebook in order to get his kit back and avoid any unnecessary panic. Out on the water Andy Chambers was cleaning up the last dregs of the conditions and from all reports Avon had been as good as it gets first light for a good few hours. By this time I was already cursing Hunty for his woeful decision-making; maybe we had already missed the best of it but it was our turn to pick up the scraps. We headed back to Highcliffe with reports from Jamie and Timo that they were both on their way after Hunty had claimed it was going to be all time on the dropping tide! The pressure was now all on Hunty’s shoulders to salvage the day!
