AGE MATTERS
“Wine, chese, love, some say all get better with age, but how about windsurfing? Every year whether we like it or not we are getting older. Older, wiser, a little bit sorer with every day on the water, but how does windsurfing get more and more fun?
I remember hearing people talk about becoming thirty, “Oh just wait until you’re in your 30s, you’ll start feeling it more.” My 30s came around and well, I couldn’t tell a difference. I still ate drank and lived windsurfing. I think I actually went harder in my 30s than in my 20s. I sailed just as much but what I really did was enjoy the sport more. Maybe I just started to realize just how good I had it and being able to windsurf for a living was truly a blessing. Still seeing the world, doing exactly what I really wanted to do – windsurf.
And then I hit 40, the big 4Zero. For some reason it was like a reality check. I started hanging out with the Schwetti’s – a family of super talented and stoked teenage windsurfers from Maui and while that produced some real stoke to be around 3 grom’s that loved windsurfing, it also hit me with a real feeling of being 40 years old. I can just see what these kids are thinking. Man that Pritchdog is old. He is the same age as our parents. Well I must add that they do have great parents and yeah they are kind of my age, well let’s say I am closer to their parents age than the kids age but hey age is in the mind right, well this year it changed my mind.
