Last time you went over the handlebars at full speed?
NB: That was in January outside the Baker Academy. I was sailing with a mate of mine and I did one of those classic jumps where I went into wind a bit and caught the front rail while I was not 100% concentrating. I was hooked in and went straight over the bars.
Last time you were scared whilst out sailing?
NB: It was the big Jaws day after I won the Aloha Classic in Maui. That was way back in 1999; I had just won the competition and was flying high. I went up in a boat with Bjorn and Scott Carvill and to be honest we only just made it out of Kahului harbour the swell was that big. As far as I know it was the biggest day that it has ever been sailed. There were only six people who even got up there. There was nowhere to launch on the north shore. I was also praying that day!
The last time your car broke down?
NB: Well I have a demo van I bought off of Whitey. Enough said! He told me it had never been raced or rallied! That thing breaks down every year and it is always something massive. I think I am on the second or third engine. I have had a new rear axle… pretty much a whole new van I’d say. It has been on its last legs since I paid for it and I feel like I am still paying for it now!
The last time you did a jump that made you scared?
NB: I was on a 4.2 outside the shop in Worthing, hit a big ramp on the outside maxed out. I went for a push loop and felt like I had so much elevation. That probably scared me a little bit; it does not take so much to scare me these days!
Last Time you made a final?
NB: That was on Friday at a go cart championships at a friend’s birthday! That was wicked fun! Windsurfing wise it was at Hove Lagoon when we did the jump off competition, which is the first time I have done any windsurf competition for many years. I was quite amped and it felt like the old days. I managed to make the final and win it. Ok I was not competing against Polakow but still it was a final and it meant something to me that I could still come out on top! I really enjoyed the winning that is for sure.
