Boarding the ferry at Ryde on the Isle of Wight I wasn’t confident. The Solent was surprisingly flat considering the way the wind had howled through the night. Plus the live wind readings from Chimet in Chichester Harbour were barely scratching a force four. I almost jumped back off the boat at the last second but too late the gangplank was raised and I was committed into the clutches of one of Hunty’s plans, Lord help me! Once in Portsmouth we raced to Hayling without stopping at GO, the golden arches or any traffic lights en-route, yep military precision, no time for faffing! Apparently we were being treated to a rare guest appearance from Chris Audsley, while Jack Hunt, not hanging around for the niceties, was already on the water. Audsley was calling 4.7m wind with overhead and building waves which sounded good to me! The drive across Hayling is a mere 10 minutes if you stick to the speed limit and within 25 minutes of coming off the ferry we were in the far end of the car park at Hayling just in time to witness Audsley, hastily de-rigging his 4.7 in exchange for a 4.2m; good sign! Looking at my watch, I had just over two hours to nail shots of this session and hopefully bear witness to confirm Hunty’s bold call that Hayling had delivered all time conditions less than a week ago! Over to Hunty for his take on the ‘water’ side of the action!
