“Île Aux Vaches near Audierne in Finistère, West Brittany is one of the ‘secret spots’ known by everyone. Waveriding there is different than other local spots as it is full of rocks; the wave is a really good reef wave, often glassy and with good size. Weather for this day on the 18th of November was quite good with WNW wind, 5m waves and a good period. Thomas Traversa came from the south to share some good vibes with the talented locals such as Robin Goffinet, Bruno Andre, Fred Debuire, Fred Jezequel and Laurent Castric.
Ile Aux Vaches or “Cow Island” in English, took its name because farmers used to keep their cows on it. The locals keep this spot kind of secret, as surfers are nervous with strangers because the peak is a bit small, but with a happy face, politeness and a bit of consideration before going out on the peak it will be ok.
It works very well with W or NW waves and a long period; best wind direction is WNW (side off) or NW (off/side off). All around this area are amazing spots for windsurfing, SUP surfing or surfing and they are uncrowded in winter. You can explore a rich coastline from well known La Torche to Audierne and see a lot of quality beach breaks. Be aware though, this area is not very windy and despite a good forecast of 15/20 knots, you will have often have only good surfing conditions or float and ride with a big board with 5 to 15 knots.”
