IBALLA MORENO
I used to go overseas to windsurf every winter, but over the last 10 years or so I’ve spent most of the year in Fuerteventura when I’m not in Pozo or travelling. I love the island. I got addicted to Fuerte’ for its surfing and windsurfing. I enjoy living in the Canary Islands in general. Each of the islands all have something unique about them. I spend time in Fuerteventura because I love my routine there. I just wake up and go surf, windsurf or sup every day. I normally go to bed the day before knowing what conditions will be like the next day. I take my van in the morning and go to the best spot or spots, depending on the forecast. Most days I will SUP, windsurf and surf if I can. Recently I’ve started foiling on my SUP, which I also love too. So that’s an extra toy in my van! I also spend few days a week physical training with a personal trainer in the mornings.
It is a really solid windsurfing community in Fuerteventura. We all get in touch every day on how conditions are on each side of the island and most sailors are always really motivated to go in the water! There is a good group of young sailors coming up. I also try to push a little team of juniors, helping them with gear and teaching them in the water also. It will be a good project for the future, for windsurf, SUP and surf.
We don’t get to windsurf up in the north of Fuerteventura as much as in Gran Canaria, but there are some good quality spots. I could be sailing one day in Cotillo with starboard tack and the same day on the east coast with port tack. I also love visiting all the islands with my van and to sail in all the spots, but definitely Fuerteventura is the island I spend most of my time in for all watersports.
