COAST CONFIDENTIAL

11.15am: JC: Finally make it back to the van after a solid forty five minute scary mission clamouring over slippery boulders with all my camera gear. At one point I was considering wading through chest high water with my big lens above my head. Somehow I had managed to leap from boulder to boulder without slipping into the crashing waves.  A few minutes later and I would have been cut off at the base of the cliffs with no place to shelter. God knows what would have happened in that situation. Maybe I could have scurried up the cliff and waited for the next low tide? There again, what am I moaning about? Timo was the one out there sailing on his own in extremely perilous conditions. You have to respect the ocean on days like this and despite not a single hostile surfer to be seen the place had its own natural defences to protect its hidden magic! One of the reasons this article is labelled Coast Confidential is because this is certainly no place for your everyday punter and we definitely would not recommend it for recreational sailing. It’s dangerous, patrolled by protective locals and a fickle spot that only works in exactly the right conditions.
