Sailing next to these majestic fans really did give a sense of daunting perspective as the tiny windsurf sail cruised past the huge white pillars. With the whirring drone of the fans turning, it really was a surreal experience to be bobbing around so close in our tiny twenty foot boat.
The Kentish Wind Farm seemed big enough to me but nothing on the scale of the London Array Farm that’s currently being constructed. When completed, the Array will be the world largest offshore wind farm and comprise of 341 turbines covering an area of 245 kilometres and the first phase alone will cost of over 2 billion pounds. Many applications for onshore wind farms come up against sturdy opposition from local residents, but it seems exploiting natural power offshore is far more acceptable aside from opposition from local fishermen and environmentalists.
