ANSE LA RAIE
Anse La Raie, in the north of the island, we were told is the windiest spot in Mauritius with another huge magnificent lagoon and great cross-shore wind, a perfect location for giant downwind slalom in yet another stunning location. This location is fixed in the calendar of events with organisers providing transport for all competitors. This year unfortunately it didn’t provide the wind we had experienced for the first 5 days of our trip but as the cloud cleared the wind kicked in, albeit light for 4 Mauritian style giant slalom races (I say Mauritian style as this day was dominated by a very impressive local, Fabrice Leclézio). After the racing here we were invited to the gob smacking Zilwa Attitude hotel (the name sake of the event). This was cocktail/BBQ night, but as we did hear reports of competitors going missing in action in previous years at the nearby Grand Baie resort area we thought this best avoided with racing the next day!
