THE UPSHOT
Thanks to what we learned on the trip I’m happy to report that I now have a healthy relationship with my camera, though the toy box has been reduced somewhat. While the Soloshot still keeps an eye on us from land, only three mounts join us on the water, and coincidently all three have been enhanced since my return. The arm on the harness mount has been extended to get more of a bird’s-eye view, and while it’s not an everyday mount for me it always enhances a gallery of pictures.
The Flymount is the most versatile of the mounts, and has since been tweaked for improved strength and durability. It can be used on both sides of the mast, set up as a pole camera, or attached to the boom, and with the new adapter will be able to capture shots looking straight down the mast, and rotate with the sail perfectly if the jaws aren’t over tightened.
The F-Hot’s mast mount function remains the same, but the manufacturing process has evolved to reduce the weight, ensuring that it’s still the lightest mount with carbon or glass versions give you the three different viewing options. I admit to being biased, but while the two views looking either side of the mast may be bonus, the front view that follows you around us my personal favourite and makes it a real plug-and-forget mast mount.
