17: Tell us about your crooked nose?
Well – the official story is that I used to play a lot of rough sports and broke my nose a few times. But the truth is that I thought I was tougher than I actually was and got my ass kicked a few times!
18: Best day of your career so far?
Probably winning the PWA slalom event in Austria.
19: Why have you been heading to Cape Town over the past few winters?
I spent many winters in Hawaii but now that there are no more starboard tack events it became irrelevant to train there. And also Cape Town is such an amazing city where you can do so many different things if there is no wind!
20: What is your daily routine while in South Africa?
I usually start my day with a session in local gym and then head to the lake for some slalom sailing then I usually have some lunch and a nap before a wave session with the boys. But if there is no wind there’s so many things you can do like teaching my girlfriend how to surf, sightseeing, shopping or go hiking. Last winter I climbed up the Table Mountain with my girlfriend and the rest of our housemates – Kenneth Danielsen, Kurosh Kiani and Chris Friis.
21: Where is the best spot to sail?
Well – just to name a few – Eland’s Bay, Cape Point, Whitsands and Melkbos.
22: Do you miss your home on the Isle of Wight?
Sure, but I don’t regret the decision to become a professional windsurfer and live for the sport.
23: Describe your favourite conditions?
Side/offshore, mast high – powerful, kit-breaking waves!
24: A nice warm pint of Ale or an icy cold lager?
ICY COLD LAGER – for sure!
