JC: Here is British ‘Top Gun’ Chris Murray taken from the Chopper. It’s pretty clear to see that ‘Muzza’ is really working his stuff for French water photographer Jerome Houyvet. My camera has locked-on to target to capture Muz – who’s carving up a nice arc of spray on his Fluorescent Tushingham Edge and Starboard Quad – despite not having too much wave to work with. Looking down at Jerome, you can see he’s thinking laterally and is shooting his Pistol Grip SPL water housing in vertical format, while his left hand is working the zoom control. The fact Jerome is also shooting in the picture adds a cool dimension to the image. It’s a great view of a sailor interacting with the water cameraman. The surface shot angle gives a totally different outlook on the scene.
Ace Windward Aviation pilot Don Shearer is doing his best to position the helicopter for myself and wingman videographer Johannes Neumann to fire at the target. That’s me in the back seat wearing the blue shorts by the way, armed with my trusty Canon 70-200 lens and 1D Mark IV body that can hammer out ten frames a second in full-burst mode.

“It is awesome to see a move captured from different angles – like The Matrix. When you’re riding on a shoot you’re always trying to line-up with the water photographer – but not too close or you’ll land on them. It’s amazing to see this shot from two points of view”
