Most wavesailors hold a special place in their heart for their home break. Those memories at your local beach, where you first slotted your feet into the straps, hooked-in your harness or hurled yourself into your first forward. Granted, being raised in locations such as Hawaii may have advantages, say in terms of the art of waveriding, but in recent years, with the bias towards cross-onshore locations, it’s been European spots that have groomed the two most-recent PWA wave champs. Avid news readers are aware that Philip Koester was born and raised in the relentless winds of Gran Canaria. But as for Spaniard Victor Fernandez, very few of us know where he first started out.
