BLESSED
As life moves on and the sessions multiply, I cannot help but feel ever more blessed in Cabo Verde. I’ve seen little surf rat kids turn into world champions and business entrepreneurs, providing work opportunities and life opportunities for others. Personally I’ve been able to slowly but surely start branching into other business fields in Cabo Verde, where watersports becomes more my passion and release, rather than my daily grind. I’ve seen derelicts, when given opportunity, turn into figures in the community and business managers. All in all the beauty of the place, the culture now so deeply instilled within me and being able to have a fingerprint on a country’s growth has been an experience that I wouldn’t change for the world.
For all of this I give the glory to God, and know full well he gave me the tool and vehicle of windsurfing to touch lives and create opportunities…and by the way bro, it was mast high and amazing!
KAI KATCHADOURIAN
My first trip to Cabo Verde was in 1996 when I was 25 years old and began breaking away a bit from my Maui/California routine. I had seen a small article in a French mag and was immediately obsessed. The day I arrived I saw Ponta Preta break and it’s not been the same since that moment, 22 years ago. It was two years before Josh made it there. Needless to say Cabo Verde changed both our lives – for the better. The history runs deep for both of us. Before the PWA run of events and before ‘The Windsurfing Movie’, there was Josh mentoring a young core of locals who evolved into world class athletes, like kitesurfers Mitu Monteiro and Airton Cozzolino. Josh Angulo has multiple world championships, a fact that is etched into the Cape Verdian history books. I have to say how proud of Josh I am; he has now branched beyond pro sailing. Although still in the game and in it to win it, he is writing new chapters as well.
