“This day was one massive roll of the dice for us; 100% Gwithian would be working (which it was!) but as it wasn’t going to be that big at Gwithian, due to the SW swell direction, I thought it was worth trying somewhere new. Polzeath is pretty close to my office in Cornwall and I surf there quite a bit during the week in winter time as it is usually not that busy compared to Fistral and Watergate. During a few of these surf sessions at low tide I started to see some potential for some good wavesailing, I know there is a small local crew who sail here a lot but I was never really around at the right times as it kind of works on the same forecast as Gwithian. On arrival the swell was looking very solid, logo to mast high in the sets and very glassy and offshore, in fact probably some of the best surf I’ve ever seen at Polzeath but looking a bit sketchy for windsurfing!
