Up to logo-high it’s a fun place to sail with long fast walls and hollow bowls for boosting airs. But any bigger and it can turn from beauty to a beast with ugly waves dredging up the sand and causing chaos. Over the winter big storms passing through the Southern Ocean can change the shape of the beach, some leaving amazing banks for perfect peeling waves whilst other storms leave the locals moaning at the endless closeouts. To be fair, for any wave sailor rocking up for the first time this place simply looks amazing any day there’s wind and waves, but I guess the local crew have a right to be fussy.
