FUTURE
Ten years down the line I probably won’t be competing any more. Let’s see how fit I am. But it looks like on the business side I have a solid position with Boards & More. I always tried to plan my next step after being a pro windsurfer. I was part of the organization of the Red Bull Storm Chase and involved in testing and now marketing with the brands. After I finished studying, I was always looking for side projects and opportunities to make a realistic career once I finished competing, which obviously can’t last forever. Our wave season is limited to the second half of the year right now; so just windsurfing for the rest of the year would drive me crazy.
I am not scared of a hard day’s work, either on or off the water! At the photo shoot the work schedule is verging on ridiculous. My alarm normally rings between 5:30 and 6 am when I check the weather. We start shooting SUP guys around 7am until 9am and then grab a quick bite to eat and a coffee. By 10:30 we meet the windsurf guys, organize the vans, sticker the sails, put fins in boards and start the first wave session by 11am. After lunch it is back on the water until sunset, then we have to pack all the gear up. Once that is all done we have to organize the van with the new boards ready for the next day. In the evening I help check through the pictures and have to make the call on the meeting time and location for the following morning. The last job of the day after food is to send a message to the team on what our plans are. This goes on for around fourteen days so it is a ton of work and very tiring, but ultimately I love windsurfing and having it as my job is a dream come true.”
