Two mounts in our toy box were essentially the same thing on paper. Both could grasp the mast or boom and fix the camera into your chosen direction, though much as John protested his version wasn’t as elegant. Bottom line is that we don’t all have an inventor for a father, which basically discounts John’s converted Manfrotto super clamp. The daddy in this duo is the Flymount, which is a wonderfully crafted piece of engineering that comes out at less than half the weight.
HOT ‘N SPICY
Last but not least, the F-Hot Mast Mount did exactly what it claimed. Some might say it’s a one-trick pony, but it’s a trick that no others could match. Thanks to the way it grips the mast your point of view camera follows you through the manoeuvre and onto the other tack, ensuring that you don’t waste time watching or deleting pictures taken from the wrong side of the sail.
