OPTIMUM ANGLES
We were soon to discover that simplicity was the key to consistent results. Looking back or down almost came with a guarantee of a perfect picture, which was in stark contrast to any angle that looked up or forward. While one in a thousand did have an air of magic, even that depended on how you chose to trigger the camera.
REMOTE CONTROL
Burst mode on the Hero3 is capable of capturing a full Jacopo freestyle move sequence, though being asked to start pressing the button when head, feet and hands are all pointing in different directions was a request too far, so we selected ‘continues at every half a second’ from the menu.
That might seem over-the-top, but for freestyle, jumping, or wave riding it increases the chances of catching that magic moment. It’s possible to drop the time down to one or even two seconds for flat water blasting, but if it’s about saving laptop time afterwards, then use the remote to start/stop the recordings between manoeuvres.
