It’s important to tune the sail and the fin as best you can, it means more speed for sure and then once you think you are fast it is good to train with some other guys to test your speed.

The biggest tip I could give to an aspiring racer is to treat your equipment like it’s your baby, and never skimp on the little things. It always amazes me when I see top level riders using pulleys with plastic rollers in them or cheap ropes on their outhaul (instead of high-quality spectra ropes) or using tape or crude repairs on their boards or even not bothering to re-sand the tips of their fins after they’ve hit a rock! If your gear ever fails in a race, I actually believe it is YOUR fault. Every ding, dint and scratch in your board or fin is drag and will lead to that equipment eventually breaking somewhere down the line. Spend that bit extra to buy the best ropes, best outhaul kits, the best board bags, the best quality harness and be very careful when you pull your boards, sails and masts out of the car to avoid any damage which can lead to that gear breaking.
