Racing takes experience, commitment and maturity. All things that take time. I see some of the younger guys finally making changes and their results improve along with it. Racing is a lot of gear tuning which takes time, commitment and dedication. Plus you need to be in good shape to get through a race and be able to give it your all – you may have to do up to 12 or 13 races at one event and in order to do this and perform and peak level you can’t go out partying during an event. Maybe we old guys are taking a lion’s share of the industry money but that lions’ share is so small that it is even hard for us top guys to stay on tour. I just don’t think there is much money for sponsorships left over so in order to be valuable to your sponsors you need to be able to help them out in other ways besides just results. Testing and development is one of the most beneficial ways to do this and to do this you again need experience and commitment and maturity. I guess what it really comes down to in racing is paying your dues and this takes time.
