Kevin needs no introduction. His pedigree is that of a true World Champion and admittedly our true level of friendship over the years has lagged behind due to our consistent dynamic as competitors first and foremost. While I was not a fulltime competitor on tour, I’ve made the odd cameo appearance and KP and I have certainly done some serious battle in competition. Far from being rivals, we both share the same background as California transplants to Maui. Outside of the contest arena, countless sessions have been shared with KP who has never crossed me or wronged me in the lineup – and I hope he would say the same.
Kevin has become wise with his years of travel and understands the meaning of collecting experiences as much as trophies. During this swell, a new bond formed. An appreciation for the long roads we’ve both traveled to reach the moments we’ve now shared was not lost on us. It was business-as-usual for me but, for Kevin, taking a trip simply for the love of windsurfing and surfing was something still somewhat new to him.
Out on the water it showed in every wave he rode that he was finally free. After millions of miles flown, countless hours in transit, always trying to please sponsors, living up to the standard that World Champions are demanded to, Kevin Pritchard looked like he had
been reborn.
