AP FLAG
KK “It is the flag with the red and white triangle and it means postponement. Can be due to gusty conditions, re-setting course or a variety of other reasons.”
FM “They put the AP flag up when there is a delay for some reason or the conditions are not suitable. It is like a temporary postponement, they can put up the AP flag to hold you at the boat when the conditions are on the edge.”
BVDS “That’s the red and white triangular flag. That means we are waiting =for something!”
FR “That is the postponement flag because the wind is too light, the course has to be reset or even a rescue!”
Z FLAG
KK “That means head back to the beach if it is hoisted on the boat and if it goes up on the beach that means you have to go to the water.”
FM “That is the flag to go back to the beach. Usually for when the conditions are unsuitable. It is a nice sight to see if the conditions are really bad! The flag is normally on the committee boat.”
BVDS “Back to the beach!”
FR “If it is raised on the beach it means sailors in the next heats should go straight to the start. If it is raised on the committee boat it means go back to the beach! If you can see it, it usually means you are in the wrong position.”
“ To be rolled is psychologically very damaging ”
