During my youth, I was only sailing in Varberg but there are more great spots around Sweden. On a solid northeast forecast you will drive down to Gislövshammar, which is on the southeast coast of Sweden. The Baltic Sea can produce some proper waves and it’s not unusual to see people from Denmark or Germany during these days. It’s a beautiful spot and most often works during the spring. Another spot in the south of Sweden is Dalen. It’s located on the Bjäre peninsula and is approximately an hour and a half drive from Varberg. It’s a good break and picks up waves quickly. Normally you go there on westerly winds. You have to walk through a nature reserve to get to the water. It’s quite a walk but when you are in the water it’s worth it. On the upwind break, you can get some nice rides and if you go a bit downwind you can boost some big jumps on a windy day. Another popular place to windsurf in Sweden is Halmstad. It is a town fifty minutes south of Varberg and with some big beaches close to the city you can always score when it’s windy. The spots you will go to depends on the wind direction. If the wind is south to southwest you will go to Vilshärad for port tack conditions, which is reasonably close to the city centre. On its day you will get really good conditions at that spot. And if the forecast predicts winds from west to northwest you will most likely head to Ringenäs, which is ten minutes away from Vilshärad. There you will get fun starboard tack conditions that suit all levels.
