TASMANIA – DISCONNECTED

It was just after Christmas and I was about to spend New Year’s Eve with friends in the mountains.  Instead of snow we had 15 degrees Celsius and heavy rain forecast.  It wasn’t inviting at all whereas a trip to the end of the world sounded like a great opportunity to start the New Year.  I told myself “now or never”. The flights for the next days were ridiculously expensive, except for one option leaving from Paris with some Chinese airline that had a really cheap and fast connection.  Once I booked the flight for the next day, I realized that the airline had a strange policy about over sized baggage. Every additional kilo over 23 kg was charged with 40€ extra.  I also had to travel by train anyway so that’s why I decided to take a minimum amount of equipment – a board, a mast, a boom and two sails. The next two days I spent in different planes to get to the other side of the world but the journey would prove to be worth it.
