On your first time at a new break, it’s always wise to wonder where to set-up, when to head down-the-line and how the current flows. There wasn’t one soul out amongst the waves to indicate what’s what, which made it a little intimidating. Throw in Graham shredding it up, and the bar was raised very quickly too. But despite all of that, I slotted into some nice rides. It wasn’t too big or intimidating – but damn was it cold. After every wipe-out, the ocean sent you a huge ice cream headache and shivers down your spine. That definitely upped the motivation for making all of your moves.
Cape Sebastian was epic for down-the-line sailing and nice little smacks. I was a bit underpowered on my 4.2 but bust a few lips open. Ruben was pushing his limits and going for big hits alongside the boys and making the conditions look easier than they really were. Graham was by far the standout, nailing a huge Goiter right in my face. I wanted to answer back, but I had nothing for him. Just a couple of old-skool one-handed tweaks and off-the-lips. I needed to step it up, but with the sun setting and the wind moderating, it wasn’t happening. As the breeze died, our lightweight buddy Russ took to the stage, going for jumps and flips to make the most of a fun time in the water. The sun sank and with everyone very tired, but stoked, it was time to hit the road northwards.
