With almost 5 million butt-in-seat air miles logged traveling the world, I had never, ever been to Canada. But, like many people from the US, I’d been itching to take a trip up to visit our neighbours and discover more of the striking north western seaboard. After the AWT Pistol River event, I finally had some time to explore this beautiful land. Of course, as we were mainly in search of wind and waves, Vancouver Island was in our sights from the start.
THE ROAD NORTH
I rounded-up a crew consisting of Ezzy team mates Graham Ezzy, Ruben Lemmens and Russ Faurot, plus Brian Caserio as land photographer and Johannes Neuman as our fearless water photographer and headed up Interstate 5 along the Oregon and Washington coastline. Our first stop before crossing the boundary was Cape Sebastian – and boy was it beautiful. We soon learned that, as ever, there‘s always a learning curve when sailing at a different spot.
