JAMIE
Now, before I left home at 5.30am there was no talk of the trip being an overnighter, not one word. I had nothing with me apart from my windsurfing gear and the clothes I was wearing. More importantly, without thinking, I’d promised my girlfriend I’d be back for an evening meal. She doesn’t mind me heading off at the drop of a hat to chase a forecast, but time has proved that it is usually best to be back when I say I will. De-rigging at Newgale there were murmurings of an epic reef spot an hour and a half north in deepest, darkest mid-Wales – in the opposite direction to where we should all be heading! Needless to say, it wasn’t an ideal scenario and some grovelling phone calls had to be made. JC opted for a text, Timo bravely opted for blaming it on the rest of us, while I foolishly went straight for the dreaded phone call. Because of boredom from being left on her own my girlfriend had dedicated the afternoon to making fresh dough for pizzas, marinating chicken wings and putting prawns on skewers, all for our planned evening meal. Oh God! We all went to bed that night knowing that tomorrow had to
be good!
