JC: OK let’s start with the basics, how old are you, where are you from and when did you start windsurfing?
AM: I am twenty one; I was born in Guadeloupe, it’s a beautiful Caribbean Island. I started windsurfing when I was five because my father wanted me to try it. My Auntie had the best windsurfing school in Guadeloupe. All my family were involved in the sport so it was natural for me to take it up. The island is actually better for surfing than windsurfing but there are some decent waves and we have light trades around 15 knots most days blowing side offshore. It’s a reef so the waves have good power; I sail there at home with Camille Juban so he is a pretty decent rider to train with.
JC: When did you first come to Europe to compete?
AM: I came to Gran Canaria in 2009 and competed in the kids contest, my first PWA event was also Gran Canaria in 2011 and then started doing the whole world tour three years ago.
JC: Do you like the fact that your image is portrayed as a young gun and crazy guy?
AM:: Actually yes I don’t mind that. I also like the way Boujmaa comes across in the media. I love to watch him windsurfing. I don’t mind being labelled for doing wild moves but I also want people to know that I am improving as an all-round sailor and I can stick some extreme moves as well. I like the fact people like me because I want to land something different and innovative and not just fly around crashing all the time.
