JC: That must have been horrific the moment you realized that?
AM: For me that was the moment of my life! Everything flashed before me. For a second I just watched the wave coming into my face. I was just hoping I would make it. I did not think about dying or anything, I just tried in that split second moment not to panic.
JC: Did you think, maybe I am going to get a good picture?
AM:(laughs) Dude, at this moment you don’t think about pictures. At Jaws you want to go there make good action, sail sick waves but the one thing you don’t want is a wipe out! In the morning I had said to myself I hope anything bad does not happen during my session and then boom, it happened!
JC: Would you trust any sailor with your life?
AM: Ah yes! Out on the water one guy for sure, that is Francisco Porcella because he is the best example I have of somebody putting themselves on the line to help me. During my session at Jaws after my wipe out I had no safety. I went without security which was pretty stupid. That was a really bad idea. Francisco was the first guy who came in on a ski to take me out of the white water. I did not ask him or had not seen him during the session. He just saw me and came into help. He was on a ski, it was huge and he was taking a big risk for himself. He even tried to save my gear from the rocks which I did not ask him to do. He could have just dropped me on a boat or close to the rocks to get in but he helped me all the way. Those guys for me, on the water, they are amazing people.
