BREAKFAST!
The next morning we woke up to clear skies and blustery winds. Breakfast in our lodgings consisted of jam and bread along with a bowl of coffee which I think was for dipping my baguette! The baguette incidentally is part of the staple diet of nearly all French citizens and they consume around 10 billion a year! The tradition is to always place them on the table and it is considered a sin to put them on a plate! At the end of a dinner, the baguette is usually deployed to mop up any remainders of their meal off the plate! While we are on the subject of the baguette, the French also like to eat them with cheese, namely Brie or Camembert and the saying in France goes, ‘A day without cheese is like a day without sunshine!’
