I’m not that good a surfer and, when I tried to take off on one of these waves, within minutes I got sucked away by the current and spat out into the channel. It was like a river and it seemed incredibly hard to take off and you needed to be super fast to your feet, so for now I stayed on the inside waves which were quite user friendly for intermediate surfers and left Lopes up to the real specialists.
JAKES LEFT
At the point outside is Jake’s Left and there I windsurfed this legendary break all to myself! When the wind picked-up, the surfers left (unless they saw a shark?). While the car park becomes quiet and deserted from time-to-time, more often it’s a coming-and-going of cars, the break being few minutes out of town to the South. The nice thing was I could ride wave after wave alone, with it breaking perfectly and harmoniously along the rocky water’s edge, only metres away from the camera.
