When we decided to spend a few days away, together with my girlfriend Alana and friends Ash and Tania, we were lucky enough to find ourselves camping at the Kalbarri caravan park at the river mouth near the ocean, halfway up the West Coast.
We drove all the way from Margaret River, 900 km and four days of camping away. Distances in Australia seem different to other places as the roads are straight and quiet and driving can be pretty relaxing. But you also see a variety of wildlife on the way making it more interesting. Our camp spot was nice and comfortable with plenty of shade and a lawn. We’d packed everything to do our own cooking, so the setup was ideal – a real adventure in the great outdoors.
But Kalbarri has it all. Nice cafes, a bakery and a rocking tavern, so you could just wing it and buy food and drinks as you go and come totally unprepared if you like! For beer you don’t even have to get out of your car, that’s what the drive-through is for. Comfort is important too!
