The population in this country town is pretty small and seems to survive mainly on fishing and tourism. Having a drink in the pub with the locals, who were all pretty cool, they told us how they’re spoiled here with so many waves over winter, which is why it was not that crowded this time of year.
In the morning the wind is usually offshore before the sea breeze kicks in around noon, so that’s the best time to surf. The wind being at the ideal angle to the wave means the conditions are often perfect and, even though there was only a 1.5 meter swell reading on the Jurien bay internet swell graph, Jake’s was already breaking logo-high.
