38: What do you do to promote yourself?
I have a website and try to update it with whatever I’m doing, posting videos, photos and plans that I have.
39: How does it feel when people call you the King of Ho’okipa?
It feels funny. It’s a great complement, I’m thankful for it, but I don’t think I’m the King of Ho’okipa. There are so many guys. The level is so high. I’m happy to be one of them pushing it and to be recognized but I’ve seen amazing, crazy moves from so many people there that it would be hard to say who really is the best. There’s definitely a lot to come in the future with the pack of guys like Ricardo, Kauli, Graham Ezzy, Levi, Bernd [Roediger] and Camille Juban. The future is bright!
40: Do you think you can ever beat Philip Koester on Port tack?
He’s on a roll now and that would be hard. But I think no one’s unbeatable, plus maybe he’ll break a mast or something at a crucial moment. I don’t know man, Phillip has so much control right now and I get really inspired by watching him, he can do all of the moves with his eyes closed on port tack, and he’s definitely a step ahead in those conditions.
41: Would you like to take Koester on at a Starboard tack at Ho’okipa on a mast high day?
Phillip is also great at Ho’okipa as well. He’s been improving a lot there. I have loads of respect for his sailing and he has the level to beat anyone, anywhere. The way the tour is right now, if you don’t try your best, anyone can lose in the first heat, any day, anytime!
