The Marshall Islands are a group of atolls 5 hours from Oahu and 7 degrees north of the equator. The Marshallese territory comprises 900.000 square miles of wave-rich kingdom that’s largely unexplored and an untapped liquid dream. Martin Daly, world renowned to boat-tripping surfers, discovered this forgotten and overlooked jewel during Billabong’s infamous ‘The Crossing’ project and was so enchanted by it’s unspoiled beauty and potential that he packed up shop in Sumatra and immediately focused all his efforts combined with his countless years of skill and expertise to create a waterman’s paradise at the edge of this aquatic frontier. A place with no crowds, no hotels, no camps, no tourists and no pollution. He aptly named one wave “Nirvana.” It’s the most pristine marine environment he’s ever seen – and he’s seen more ocean than most.
Martin recently brought his 45-ft. Searay 5800 nautical miles from Perth to Ailinglaplap. 47 days at sea, by himself. Mortal men cringe at the thought and, when asked about the trip, he says enthusiastically “I loved it. I wish it were longer.” That’s why we’re here. This is why this adventure is possible – because he had the courage, the brains and the abstruse hunger to make it possible. And we are about to harvest some serious waves.
