SWEDEN – VARBERG

“The windsurfing capitol of Sweden – Varberg – is located on the Swedish west coast and has around 28,000 inhabitants. Varberg is where you want to live if you are into windsurfing and watersports; with beaches close to the town centre, it’s easy to get a session in before and after work. During a windy day you will see the beaches full of windsurfers, kiters, surfers and stand up paddlers enjoying the Kattegat waves. This is where I grew up and my passion for windsurfing was born. It all started with my parents being into windsurfing and eventually moving down to Varberg from Örebro, a lager city in the middle of Sweden, to get closer to the sea. When I was a kid I didn’t windsurf. I was the typical Swedish kid playing ice hockey and football as most of the kids do. It took fourteen years before I wanted to try it out after watching my dad’s old windsurfing movie collection on VHS. After trying it and being able to sail for approximately 100 metres I was hooked. And when I got planing for the first time it turned into an obsession I’ve had ever since. I saved money from the “summer jobs” I had and eventually bought my own windsurfing board. From day one I have really enjoyed windsurfing movies and it is still a passion, during the DVD era I think I bought every single movie that came out! Competing is fun but to create a windsurfing clip is something special for me and is where I get the most out of myself as a windsurfer.
