SWEDEN – VARBERG

A royal visit:
After a few years of competing on the PWA world tour I have some good friends from all over the world. One of them is Pozo local Alessio Stillrich. He is a true ripper and is climbing up the rankings on the world tour. It’s just a matter of time before he is hitting the podiums in my eyes. Between the events in Klitmøller and Sylt last year, he came with me to Sweden. We had been talking about it for a long time and it was awesome to finally see him walk around on my home turf! After a day of sightseeing Varberg and its surroundings we were lucky and got one day of wind while he was here. During our first session we sailed a spot called Åsa, which is located around thirty minutes north of Varberg. On a west-southwest forecast, it is the place to be in my opinion. It was a good day and Alessio, Gustav and I were enjoying some good starboard tack conditions. After a few hours of fun sailing we headed towards Varberg again to sail my home spot Läjet. That’s the spot where I learned how to windsurf with my dad and is still my main spot in Sweden to train and improve. It was amazing to sail with Alessio at my home spot as we have had many sessions together at his home break (Pozo). He seemed to enjoy the conditions and the starboard tack angle didn’t stop him from sending some sick jumps and rides. The windsurfing community back home is not spoiled to have windsurfing celebrities in our waters that often. So to see the smile on locals faces as they were sailing their home break with a windsurfing star they only have seen in movies, magazines and online warmed my windsurfing heart.
