SWEDEN – VARBERG

I love being at home in Norway during the summer if it’s windy. I’m away for months around the world, so as soon as we have a decent forecast around Oslo I’m straight to the beach. But no spots in Norway are as great and fun (for me at least) as Varberg in Sweden. Everyday I’m in Norway I check the forecast for Läjet in Varberg to see when the next dream trip to that spot can happen. I normally drive the evening before (3.5 – 4 hours drive), and get on the water in the early morning freestyling for 2-3 hours. As the wind is getting stronger and the waves are building up for more jumping I switch to my 72 litre waveboard. So much fun and “holiday sailing” when I am in the waves. I am competing in the PWA in freestyle and slalom, but not waves (yet). So I do feel like I’m on a holiday every time I step on my wave board. Just having fun doing some back, push and forward loops. That added with a lot of exciting crashes. Läjet (with the right wind direction) can be a great spot to learn moves as the waves are normally mellow and you will not feel like the wave is destroying you. For me that’s great. I prefer to focus much more on the moves I want to learn, instead of just surviving on the water with too big waves. So for me, this spot is a perfect combination for freestyle and waves. It’s always fun to see Markus sailing there. He is ripping and is the best local sailor there.
