Two and a half hours later, having forked out a further investment of £13.60 for the van toll over the Severn Bridge, we crossed into Wales still sceptical about our decision. Apparently Jim Brooks-Dowsett was a step ahead of us and was already driving from Cardiff to camp out at Alfie’s recommended spot overnight. There was also talk that Lewis Merony, Greg Taylor and Djalmo Serra were all heading up for a slice of the action too. The Welsh crew are a tight knit bunch of sailors and all seem to know where and when the conditions will be firing and somehow have organized their day jobs to be able to cash in when an epic windsurfing session is on. I was just banking on the fact that after a wave starved winter, they were not jumping the gun and taking myself and Coxy on a wild welsh goose chase!
