JC – How strong is the windsurf scene in Morocco compared to surfing?
BG – The windsurf scene is still very small in Morocco compared to surfing, for sure there is a huge gap, I don’t know why exactly but I would say the gear is harder to get and the conditions are only good in Essaouira, Dakhla and maybe on the Mediterranean side in front of Tarifa or more towards the east side of it. There is also a small RS:X Olympic class, but with Taghazout well established on the surfing map, surfing is a fast growing sport in Morocco.
JC – What is a typical day for you in Morocco?
BG – I would say a solid surf in the morning and a good time with my family, then windsurfing in the evening.
JC – What are your absolute favourite conditions to sail in?
BG – I love Ponta Preta style sessions, it’s beyond perfection, but I also love solid waves in Morocco with a 4.2 sail, Moulay style!
JC – Do you still dream of performing mental jumps like the ‘black shot’ or after the crash in Maui did that change your mentality?
BG – I still picture myself doing so, I believe if I had a friend to sail with everyday, someone like Antoine Martin, I would feel very amped to push the limits in jumping and trying insane moves. The crash has changed a little bit the way I look at things, but deep inside I know there is that drive to push my windsurfing limits further.
