Ben on Phil: “Phil was a bit of a late edition to the Rhosneigr crew. He was working at Plas Menai the national water sports centre teaching sailing and windsurfing and would pop up every now and again for an after work sail. He was definitely not one to shout about his progression but it was fast and it wasn’t long before he was busting out all the moves.
Horrocks is quite a competitive fella but in a quiet way. I mean, if he learns a new move he probably wouldn’t even mention it, which is pretty much Phil’s way. But that doesn’t mean to say he doesn’t like to bust out a big move right in my face when he gets the chance. But that sort of sailing is the one thing that has pushed us up to World cup level. We are both Local sailors at Rhosneigr and ranked top fifteen in the world. I think that says a lot for the spot and the way we have pushed each other! You need that training partner and competitive rivalry to push through the limits.
Phil is a bit of a big wave charger, he loves it when it’s chunky and will go looking for conditions even if it means driving for it. He also likes to make a point of scoring conditions on his own or without me at least and just loves to say ‘Where were you?”
