Ben Proffitt
The voice behind the live stream on the PWA Ben Proffitt actually lives in Shrewsbury two hours away but is pretty much regarded as a Rhosneigr local as he rarely misses a decent forecast when he is around in the UK. So it was no surprise, when I saw the low pressure approaching, Ben had already made plans to head up to Anglesey for the weekend as if it was his second nature to be there come any sign of wind or waves. When we rolled up at the beach there was Ben’s van parked in the front line right in front of Funsport shop just like on any other decent Rhossy forecast. His traditional angle of attack is to head to the beach late at night, park up the van and sleep in the back so he is bright and breezy and ready to rock ‘n’ roll in the morning.
Ben has been sailing this break for over ten years, hence the fact his port tack prowess is feared by many on the PWA World Tour. Before Ben ventured into the wave arena he was into IMCO sailing in a big way and just missed out on a place in the 2000 Olympics. Not to be perturbed he ditched the race gear, ordered up some wave kit, headed to Rhosneigr, learned to forward loop and never looked back.
