“Windsurfing has been my life since I was 12 years old. I grew up on an island in the south of Brazil where windsurfing was a very small sport. Luckily I had my parent’s house just by a lake and my access to the water was easy. I fell in love with water sports since the first time I sailed on boats when I was 10 years old, but windsurfing was far more radical. Before sailing my back ground was tennis and surfing on the weekends with my father, he gave me my first surf board when I was 4 years old. When I started practicing full time windsurfing I gave up tennis. When I was 13 I won some junior local events and then Mormaii stared sponsoring me and by the time I was 16 they made my dream come true and sent me to Maui to practice.
That is when my professional career started, I managed to gain some international media, found some international sponsorship for equipment and in 2000 I made my debut wining the trials event from the Aloha Classic. In 2001 I won my first ever PWA event when I was 18. After I won I realized I had made around 10,000 dollars in prize money. I invested all that into land for my house in Ibiraquera, which was the best wave spot about 100 km from my parents. After this event I realized I had achieved that result because my inspiration was a personal satisfaction to improve.
Professionally things went great after that, I was one of the young guns at that time and slowly got into freestyle also and really went deep into competition for the next 15 years. I won 3 wave world titles, I was 2 times freestyle second place overall, indoor champion, Super X champion and had many top results and countless memories. Now I am more relaxed on the competition side and want to enjoy other aspects of the sport. I like to do trips and search for new waves to ride. I enjoy exploring new places to sail, and also work in my windsurf centre in Sao Miguel do Gostoso. We now receive lots of foreign tourists and it is so satisfying to still make a living from windsurfing but in a different way! All I have conquered I must thank to my passion for windsurfing!”
