THOMAS TRAVERSA – PRO-FILE

Weight; is it good or bad being light?

I am 63 kilos now, sometimes up to 65. I try to be as heavy as I can. It is good because I can travel light with just one board and a few sails. When the wind dies I can usually still be floating around. The biggest sail I use is a 4.5m! That is for really light wind. I don’t have a 5.8 (laughs) no, no, no, no! You can only sail and travel like this if you are light. At the same time I wish I was heavier so I can have more power in the turns and hold stronger in the high winds. I get really tired when I compete, I have to use a bigger sail and sail overpowered. My body is really thin and not so strong. Every time I compete I am destroyed the day after. I don’t go to the gym. I surf and I windsurf and I run most days. I run at home in the mountains and bike also. I don’t get stronger but I am fitter. This has changed in the last three or four years and has helped me a lot! Being fit helps you stay calm and not lose your focus.

Boards?

Since last yearin Maui we made a new board with new outlines and now I am riding thrusters. The boards we made for Maui work everywhere. I just changed the fins a little bit for Maui,  I trust the way Fabien works and we are always checking new ideas.
