MARCILIO BROWNE: RELENTLESS PURSUIT!

Marcilio Browne came agonizingly close to claiming his fourth consecutive PWA Wave World Title at the 2025 Aloha Classic, only to see the crown slip away after Marc Paré’s inspired late-season charge. Despite finishing second overall, Browne’s season was nothing short of phenomenal…with standout victories in Japan, Chile and Maui, plus strong results throughout the year that reaffirmed his status as one of the most complete and consistent riders on tour. We caught up with Marcilio to find out the near misses and what keep him motivated after more than a decade at the very top of wave sailing.

HO’OKIPA HEART BREAK

WINDSURF: You came so close to winning four world titles in a row…how much of a disappointment was it coming third in Maui at the end of the season and second overall on the world tour?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “It was a bit painful for the first few days for sure! It hurts getting that close and not winning the title again, but as time passed by and then being able to reflect more, I am really stoked with the year and my performance when I think about it now.” 

WINDSURF: That Aloha final was so stacked…how did it play out and how tough was it to find the right waves to get the scores you knew you needed?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “Yes, the Aloha is always a hard one having so many good local riders, but that is what makes it exciting. And yes, with Ho’okipa you have to go for it, but there is always a bit of luck on which waves you catch also … At the end of the day, Ho’okipa also has to choose you!”

WINDSURF: Did you speak to Marc after the final?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “Yes, I went to him straight after and congratulated him on his amazing win!” 

WINDSURF: Did you enjoy the excitement of the event going down to the wire or did you find it stressful?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “Both, I really enjoyed the intensity of it!  Those feeling are what we live for as competitors, that is part of the whole fun … But I would be lying if I said it was not a bit stressful!  But these days I can kind of enjoy those feelings in a way. That is what makes the wins so special, that adrenaline, stress and the feeling of it all go away when you do win.”

WINDSURF: What gear were you riding in Maui during the contest?

MARCILIO BROWNE: I was pretty much only riding with the Goya Banzai 4.7m with 86L and a 5.0m with 88L both quads.

SAVAGE SYLT

WINDSURF: Back to Sylt…what were you thinking on the extra finals day when the storm hit…did you even want to sail in those conditions?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “I was ready to compete, it was not conditions I would personally go after for fun but competing in gnarly onshore is a part of it, and we got to be able to perform on those days too, no excuses! 

WINDSURF: Your semi was pretty stacked with Koster and Pare in the same heat how tough was it competing in bolt onshore conditions against such strong opponents?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “It is what it is, if you want to win you got to beat the best period. I was not thinking of who I was against, I was just trying to pick the right gear and making a strategy for the heat and to get past the shore break.” 

WINDSURF: What gear did you ride in Sylt in that heat?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “I was on a 5.0m with 99L Goya Nitro. That worked great but it was difficult sailing in dead onshore”

WINDSURF: How was it adjusting from Sylt to Maui in just the short space of a week?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “That was a bit tough, I always struggle with jet leg, so took me like 4 to 5 days I would say, but being home is always amazing, I was just so happy to be back!”

HOWLING CANARIES

WINDSURF: You scored a 4^th and a 2^nd in the Tenerife and Pozo events, were you happy with your performance on port tack in the Canary Islands?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “I was super stoked with my Canaries season, especially with Pozo, which I felt like I sailed my best ever, in the single elimination final, that was one of the highlights of my year. Tenerife was fun too, but I could not find a wave in the final … 

VICTORY ROLL

WINDSURF: You kicked off the season well with wins in Japan, Chile and Maui, how did it feel to kick off the season with three straight wins?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “Three straight wins early on felt amazing, it was a confidence booster feeling like my gear was spot on and my training was working.”

WINDSURF: Are you still feeling as motivated as ever to keep training and competing on the PWA world tour?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “Yes, I am super motivated to keep working on my weaknesses and keep competing.” 

WINDSURF: Do you ever get bored of sailing at Ho’okipa or does every session still get you excited?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “I will never get bored of sailing Ho’okipa! It is my favourite spot in the world. I love going there each day.” 

WINDSURF: How much does it mean to be part of the Goya Team and to share the energy, the enthusiasm and the passion they have for windsurfing?

MARCILIO BROWNE: “Being part of the Goya team is incredible; they are very experienced group of people that inspire me each day and provide incredible support. I love the freedom we have within the brand and where the equipment is at right now!”
